We hosted the Paderborn Untouchables III this past Sunday. With just 9, or defense kept it close until giving up 6 in the seventh. Our offense couldn’t get things going though against the lefties, even ending the game early with two great picks by #47 of PB. Even so, both teams showed great sportsmanship throughout. It’s always a pleasure playing against the Untouchables.

Yesterday, the Bochum Barflies faced off against their A43 rivals, the Marl Slydogs, in a thrilling 9-inning showdown at home. Despite starting with a skeleton crew of just 11 players—including Fabiano making his baseball debut after only a few weeks with the team—the Barflies showed incredible resilience! 💪

Things didn’t start great for the Barflies, giving up 10 runs in the top of the first due to some fielding mishaps. But a strong 4-run response in the bottom of the inning kept us in the game, and our defense tightened up to keep Marl off the board in the second inning with a key double play to end their attack. ⚾️

Marl only managed a few single-run innings and a two-run inning after that, thanks to stellar pitching by Adrien and Theis on the mound. Justus made a spectacular play, robbing Marl of a home run right at the fence! 🧤

On offense, we kept chipping away. After the seventh-inning stretch, the Barflies caught fire with a huge 5-run explosion to pull within one run in the seventh and tie it in the eighth. 🔥 Marl answered back with a run in the ninth, bringing in their starter to close the game in an attempt to hold their lead.

With daylight fading and knowing a tie would leave the game unresolved until a later date, the Barflies came out swinging for the win! With runners on second and third and one out, Marl surprised us with a sneaky play, picking off the runner at third with the left fielder making the tag. But the Barflies kept their cool with now two outs, showing great plate discipline as two batters battled from two strikes down to draw walks.

With the bases loaded, a hit-by-pitch brought in the tying run. Then, our cleanup hitter Adrien—already 6 for 6 with two doubles—stepped up. With a full count and the crowd holding their breath, the final pitch missed the zone, bringing in the winning run! 🥳

It was an incredible 4-hour and 15-minute battle, overcoming so many obstacles to secure an amazing upset over the Slydogs! A huge shoutout to our amazing fans who kept cheering us on, even when things looked tough!
